>> i am megan pringle. we have you covered from the national to local events. >> time for a check of the forecast. it could be changing out there. let's check in with lynette. >> yes it's changing. we can see on maryland's most powerful radar seeing wet weather move in across the area. we look across the eastern shore right now and look at the pinks. so as you step out the door across the area a wintery mix that's the scenario continuing throughout the day and a switch over to snow as we go into the afternoon. we have a winter weather advisory posted for the areas here shaded in bluep this is in effect at 10 this morning until wednesday morning. so accumulations maybe about 1 to 2 inches mainly of wet slushy stuff especially accumulations across the grassy surfacess or mail bock us about we are very cold once again this morning. cold enough to support snowfall across the area. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. >> reporter: good morning. hard to believe we are into

of new york in the wake of sandy. crowds went crazy when the president projected to win reelection. >> and another major new york city landmark showing off the patriotic side. the life on the -- lights on the empire state building red, white and blue and blue at base of it and that's because it's in honor of president obama's win. the american people have spoken and you have reelected president obama for a second term. >> he has spooferers -- supporters gather to celebrate the very maniry and we have more on the big win. >> reporter: thousands packed the chicago convention center to celebrate the current and future president barack obama. >> our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up, we have fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the united states of america, the best is yet to come. >> reporter: tonight's outcome was anything but certain.

it has been six months and more than 100 rallies since the president officially kicked off his reelection efforts. slow economic recovery and a poor performance in the first presidential debate left the campaign in a virtual tie in the final weeks. but as the election wore on the president continued to rack up key electoral votes and shortly after 11 p.m. eastern time, it was ohio that put obama over the top and a state that became ground zero for both candidates in the phenyl hours of the campaign. -- final hours of the campaign. for mitt rom mi it was bitter disappointment but in a concession speech to supporters in boston he conveyed a message of university the in defeat. >> i so wish it's been able to fulfill your hopes to lead your country in a different direction but the nation chose another leader and ann and i join with you to pray for him and this great nation. >> reporter: the president says he looks forward to working with the former opponent.

>> the weeks ahead i look forward to sitting down with governor romney where we can work together to move the country forward. >> reporter: the president in the victory speech took a bipartisan tone saying americans voted for action and not politics as usual but again keep in mine, this is a democratic president who will be dealing with a house that is run by republicans and a senate run by democrats and again the same setup facing the same divisions we have seen over the last four years. that's the latest from chicago. >> the race we had our ice on voters had major initiatives to decide on. >> this morning the results are in and our state is making history. sherrie johnson is live in federal hill with the outcome of question 6 and a lot of the nation was watching how maryland would vote. >> reporter: there are a lot of eyes on maryland and maryland made history as we voted to make same sex marriage legal in this state. it's a question that has been defeated each of the 32 times

it had been on the ballot in other states. maryland is now the 7th state in addition to the district of columbia to approve marriage equality. voting on question 6 came when supporters argued that same sex marriage is is a civil right and that children of same sex couples key serve -- deserved to be raised by parents married. it doesn't force clergy to perform marriage ceremonies many religious organizations are not required to participate in the ceremonies. opponents of question 6 collected more than double the number of signatures required to push it too a referendum. now maryland is the first state to legalize same sex marriage through a ballot referendum. local courts can begin issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples in january. and same sex marriage was approved in maine. reporting live in federal hill,sherrie johnson, abc2 news. blackjack and expanding gaming conto the -- coming to the state. voters approved question 7 and this morning christian schaffer

is where a new casino will be built. >> reporter: supporters say that the passage of question 7 in maryland will mean hundreds of millions of dollar for schools and it will certainly mean a new casino here at national harbor and table games for all the casinos around the state. supporters celebrated with abang. a fireworks show over the potomac river it was a close vote. opponents don't believe those claims that more dollars will go to education. they gathered down the road rose croft raceway hoping question 7 would be voted down. in the end, you heard the celebration, from the architect to move this the county executive. >> prince george's county you carried it home and made us proud. i want to let you know the money that comes from this just like we said all along so sometimes you can't believe a

comptroller. that the money is going towards education and it's going to help build fifth 210 and health care and jobs and jobs and jobs. >> reporter: by law the casino here in prince george's county can't open until 2016. however, the other gaming facilities around the state have been built with the anticipation of possibly adding table games so those will be added much sooner than that. reporting from prince george's count. children of ilheel immigrants -- illegal immigrants can pay in-state tuition at public college. 59% of voting in favor, 41% they voted against it. under the measure, kids of illegal immigrants must attend

6. he was elected for the first time in 1992 and the 86-year- old was the second oldest member in the house of representatives. congressman harris is now the only republican to serve maryland in the federal government. abc2 news brian kuebler spent election night with the state's republican party with the candidate at bwi west in linthicum and has more reaction to the big win. >> reporter: the voters of district one put him in office for a second straight term in the u.s. house of representatives. he he said the nation faces serious challenges and he has the confidence to take on the challenges and believes in american greatness and he says he will not apologize for it. our government he also added cannot work if only half of our legislature is doing its job laying blame on the gridlock of the last two years on the democratically controlled senate. let's listen to what else he had to say shortly after his speech this evening. >> we are going to keep our

democrats held the victory party. for many there were no words. hears -- tears of joy and cheers of excitement after the president secure the second term in office. >> we elected our president. >> reporter: it capped off a rake rancorous night for state democrats sending 7 members to the house of representatives and return cardin to the u.s. senate. >> this is a day that will change history not just for baltimore not just for maryland but for our country. >> reporter: and it was a night of history for maryland voters. passing all major ballot questions, including expanded game redistricting and the dream act. marled became one of the first -- maryland became one of the first stays to pass same sex marriage. now after a night of celebration, the country picks it up essentially where it left off. democrats control the white house and senate and republicans held on the control of the house and with looming economic and employment issues at hand how will the two sides work together this time? >> we have got to stop the

as i step out of the way, this is the nor'easter pushing in across the area bringing us wet weather also a within theory mix and this continues through the rest of today. temperatures are going to be cold enough to support this snow and in lot of spots. we are at glen burnie 37 degrees. and 34 in sykesville. wind will be on the windy sideout of the northeast at 10 to 15 miles an hour with gusts up to about 30 miles an hour. right now, we see sustained wind about 5 in baltimore and they will pick up going throughout the day. 13 in dc right now and 5 in york. so we will have a wind chill so the 30s i showed you going to feel more like we are in the 20s. we are going to be cold and wendy and this is what's going on at the surface. you can see the nor'easter pulling away and it's across the in the atlantic right now. away from the coast that's some good news. if this was further in we would be seeing some much worse weather sliding up the coast going through tomorrow and it's

going to take the nasty weather with it. so we have today the wendy conditions and the cold conditions and also the wentry mix. as we go into the afternoon we will see more snow across the area. accumulations are going to be on the tough side because you will have rain and then snow on top of that. so basey some -- basically some slushy accumulation 1 to 2 inches and across the eastern shore we are looking over 1 or 1 1/3 but we are going to be seeing changing of times. 40 degrees for today and it's going to be cold and windy and we have the wentry mix and tonight that snow is likely one to two inches of slush but basically that's towards the east. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i can't believe it's going to feel like it's in the 20s. shouldn't be possible for right now for early november. well if you heading out of 95 you will want to crank the heat but no delays from columbia to downtown baltimore looking at

7 minutes away from five. frustration is growing in long island that's where many homeowners are still without power. huge trees brought down power lines leaving many stranded in the cold dark homes and they saythis family has disabled son and are answeringry they have not gotten information about when the lights will be back on. they have not been able to use a lift to get their son upstairs to shower or sleep. despite the help from the community the family they may still have to wait even longer. there are reports of the shortage the power poles which means it's going to be maybe three more weeks before the power is back on. people in garrett county will get help at a food bank distributes 34,000 pounds of food to areas where sandy

dumped two feet of snow and left thousands in the dark. people in somerset county got food after the storm. it was bought as part of a grant approved bygoneor o'malley. with a threat of of a nor'easter michael blockberg is closing down the beaches and parks because he is worried there will be 5 5-mile-per-hour that could bring down more branches and trees that have been weakened by sandy and the threat of coatal flooding much -- coastal flooding, much of that the sand formed between the sea and people's homes is washed away. when you look at this and think about the possibility of 50-mile-an-hour gusts coming that way again, this is just more problems they don't need. >> you feel so bad for the people and imagine how frustrating it is to be without power for week. we experienced it during the summer but this is cold. >> and it's dangerous. >> exactly. not only is it cold but it's dangerous across the area. this is what they are dealing w co are going to be dealing with
